What Drain Cleaning Actually Fixes
Drain cleaning has one job: remove the obstruction that is slowing or stopping a drain, and restore normal flow — verified, not assumed.
That covers the drains in daily use. Kitchen lines slowed by grease and food debris. Bathroom sinks and showers choked on hair and soap residue. Laundry standpipes spilling over on the rinse cycle. Floor drains in basements, garages, and mechanical rooms that back up or turn sour. Nearly all of these are local problems — the blockage sits in the fixture’s own drain or the branch serving it — and a proper clearing ends them.
What drain cleaning does notfix is a damaged pipe, a root-invaded main line, or a septic tank overdue for pumping. When the same drain clogs again weeks after a clearing, or when several fixtures start backing up together, the trouble likely sits further down the system. A good plumber tells you that instead of selling a third clearing; the honest next step then is inspecting the line itself, which is the territory ofsewer line repair, not another routine cleaning.
